What if San Joaquin County becomes a center for the production for self-driving vehicles?
December 12, 2017
A major worldwide trend, which will affect real estate, business location and your way of life is self-driving vehicles. San Joaquin County has become the center of execution for this electric self- driving vehicle technology evolution. What does that mean for the current and future growth of our economy?

Tesla had over 18,000 employees worldwide before adding 700 engineers and technicians in Germany and China with the acquisition of Grohmann Engineering. With the acquisition of SolarCity, they added an additional 12,000 employees in the US and 300 in Mexico, Canada, and China, growing the company to over 25,000 employees. If you had purchased 100 shares of Tesla for $150 in 2014 when they located in Lathrop, you could sell it to day for over $300.
Quietly, Tesla has acquired multi-locations totaling approximately 1 million sq. . and employs an estimated 450 associates in San Joaquin County.
These facilities are part of a growing supply chain for the Fremont production plant and each facility represents an important link in the supply chain along with the massive Gigafactory in Sparks, NV. More suppliers are now locating along this new supply corridor.
Tesla Self-Driving Demonstration
Of course, Tesla can sell every vehicle it can manufacture and current orders for the new Model 3 stand at over 400,000 vehicles. Each vehicle Tesla manufactures has self-driving capability hardware included. It’s a software challenge to create truly self- driving vehicles and over $80 billion has been invested worldwide to make this happen within the next 5 years or less.
So, the next five years will see an increasing development of an electric self- driving supply chain between Sparks, NV and Fremont, CA with many manufacturing and logistics companies looking to locate close to each of these facilities. It’s a great opportunity for San Joaquin County USA to attract high wage technology jobs and the San Joaquin Partnership is working hard to make this happen every day.
