Stockton a Hotbed of Activity for Tech Startups: Valley Hackathon Brings Together Industry Talent and Professionals to Downtown
November 2, 2017
San Joaquin County is poised to become a hotbed of activity for tech startups as more and more businesses learn about what it has to offer. On September 23rd, Huddle Cowork hosted its first annual Hackathon in downtown Stockton. The event was a huge success and brought together both tech companies and future tech industry employees alike as they collaborated to create usable software applications.
However, the event stood for more than just a simple hackathon. It also represented the central valley’s continuous efforts to draw more businesses and employees towards the growing tech scene in San Joaquin County.
Nate Bunney, the owner of Inventaweb, took charge of the event and worked with Phillip Lan, vice president of partnership and business development at Trinity Board Group, to organize the logistics of the Hackathon. Bunney was quoted in the Central Valley Business Journal as saying, “The overall goal is to build the Valley economy by developing the community here and showing other communities to invest here. Bay Area companies can discover talent right over here instead of looking somewhere else,” Bunney said. “Hackathons are ground zero for innovation in tech and we invite people to come see it here.”
When asked about what the Hackathon was hoping to accomplish, Lan said, “Creating opportunities for people in the Valley and tech is the way to do it. There is a community here, but it isn’t very connected. We want to give people a reason to come out, build connections in the community, grow the tech ecosystem here”
While the area continues to attract more and more technology startups, keep an eye out for more of these tech events around the area. As the tech scene grows in the central valley, people will find more and more reason to forgo the massive amounts of expenses and logistics that come with moving to the Silicon valley to move somewhere with just as passionate and lively of a tech scene such as San Joaquin County. The next hackathon event is scheduled for January 2018, so keep your eyes peeled on the Valley Hackathon website (https://valleyhackathon.com/) for more information.
