San Joaquin Valley Could Be Amazon's Next Home
October 19, 2017
Stockton is submitting a bid to be the next location of Amazon headquarters, a bid that could bring up to 50,000 jobs with an average salary of $100,000 a year reports the Stockton Record in ‘HQ2’ in SJC? Anything’s possible.
The Seattle based company is seeking a location for its second headquarters and Stockton could be a possibility. Amazon has a range of parameters that must be met for its new facility. Some of these parameters are that the site must be able to accommodate Amazon’s planned 8 million square foot building space as well as to be near a major highway and major metropolitan area. San Joaquin Valley meets all of these requirements which makes it a viable option to be picked.
However, some people seem to think that Amazon may be looking to set its sights on somewhere on the east coast as it already has a headquarters on the west coast. “But you can’t win unless you buy a ticket,” said Mike Ammann, president and CEO at the San Joaquin Partnership.
Amazon already has deep ties to San Joaquin Valley, as it is the area’s largest private employers with about 6,300 jobs at three different distribution centers. This already existing relationship is a big asset for San Joaquin Valley’s bid to be Amazon’s next home.
Even if Stockton isn’t selected, this could be good in a number of different ways for the city. The selection process offers San Joaquin valley valuable exposure as well as help develop relationships that could be utilized in the future.
