Officials with Stockton Metropolitan Airport Sign a Statement of Cooperation with Chinese Airport
August 27, 2015
Opportunities for businesses in San Joaquin County to expand and reach new markets are on the rise. Stockton Metropolitan Airport has announced plans for a strategic cooperation with Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. As the fourth largest airport in China, the airport offers many opportunities for international trade, tourism, and economic development.
Airport officials with Stockton Metropolitan Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport marked their mutual desire to work towards creating new international cargo, passenger, and charter-service opportunities between the two airports by signing a Statement of Cooperation. The signing took place on Saturday, August 22, at the Santa Clara Hyatt Hotel.
Harry Mavrogenes, Executive Director of the Stockton airport, said the airport was “very pleased to develop this cooperative relationship with Chengdu Airport that we believe will benefit both airports.” Stockton airport, according to Mavrogenes, has focused on China with its significantly growing air transport industry as an opportunity to grow its air services, including cargo as well as commercial passenger service.
The statement signed by airport officials comes on the heels of another exciting development at the airport. Earlier this summer, Stockton Metropolitan Airport was approved by the San Joaquin Council of Governments Board of Directors for funding needed to begin developing a Federal Inspection Station (FIS). The approved bond financing plan will provide as much as $9.7 million for the project. The FIS is critical to the start-up of international service.
